Travelled: 90 kms from Saint-P\u00e8re to Vandenesse-en-Auxois  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited: The Bourgogne  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed: Vandenesse-en-Auxois, \u20ac10, N47.22040, E04.61650  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Budget: 37 days @ \u20ac96 per day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once again Pam has us walking the pilgrim\u2019s path around V\u00e9zelay, this morning our walk has us return through Saint-P\u00e9re where we find the L\u2019\u00c9glise Notre Dame or the Church of Our Lady for those of you without Google Translate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst Saint-P\u00e9re has a lovely campsite a stones throw from V\u00e9zelay its fairly nondescript except for its church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blurb describes Our Lady as a mini-Cathedral<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

So Saint-P\u00e9re is done, we service the Hymer and set the GPS for Vandenesse-eu-Auxois. There is an aire on the Canal de Bourgogne in Vandenesse and it\u2019s only 2 kms down the hill from Ch\u00e2teau de Ch\u00e2teauneuf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another scenic and easy drive along the D roads, 90-70-50 kph, then back to 90 kph and the cycle repeats at the next village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stop for a Lidl to top up our cupboards and later at a Carrefour Market for some diesel or gazole as they call it here in France. At \u20ac1.67 it was the cheapest we found today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aire de CC in Vandenesse is situated in the middle of the village, right on the Bourgogne (Burgundy) Canal. We manage the last spot so its obviously a popular stop-over. It has a view and shade what more could you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it\u2019s been a busy morning we flip a coin and decide we\u2019ll stay for two days, walk the village and canal then ride the scooter up the Ch\u00e2teau du Ch\u00e2teauneuf tomorrow. It seems our pace is slowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our wandering of the village includes visiting Our Lady of Assumption, the village church. It dates to the late 12th century. I couldn\u2019t get a half decent photo of the outside, but the photos below show it\u2019s very interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wandering the tiny church yard, come cemetery we find two Commonwealth War Graves, an English pilot officer and his bomb aider, both young men who presumably lost their lives somewhere nearby in 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next morning Pam has us walking the Bourgogne Canal\u2019s old tow path. Heading west we pass another 8 \u00e9cluse in just less than 3 kms. Its\u2019 a beautiful walk and reminiscent of our time on the Midi some years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later today we\u2019ll go on the Ch\u00e2teauneuf, but that\u2019s enough for thIs blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
