Travelled: 30 kms from Beaumont to St Catherine\u2019s and back \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited:\u00a0 Touring the South East Coast \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed: Hideaway RV. \u20ac25, N49.20130, W02.16660  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Budget: 26 days @ \u20ac99 per day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last day of touring Jersey and most of it can be done via the M4 coastal road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Pam is back in full form and that means our day starts with a 6 kms walk down the hill and along Saint Aubin\u2019s Bay. The Jersey Triathlon is on tomorrow and there\u2019s a lot of fit people jogging around this morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a 15 minute drizzle delay we point the scooter east, setting off around the bay through Saint Helier and onto the A4. As it\u2019s Saturday morning the traffic seems reasonable enough, we run through the tunnel and leave the traffic behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tide is running out and the coastline moves out to the bay with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stop at La Rocque Harbour, walking out on the pier (circa 1827) to watch the tide recede into the distance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out in the middle of the bay another tower, now high and dry<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We continue our ride to Saint Catherine\u2019s Bay, stopping for a coffee. The pier is almost 800 metres long and the only deep water bay on the east coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We double back a mile to Mont Orgueil Castle<\/a> which we spotted yesterday but did not stop. If you find Mont Orgueil a bit of a gobfull well the locals call it Gorey Castle as it overlooks the village of Gorey. We pay the princely sum of \u00a313.50 pp to go in for a look see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the blurb there has been a fortification here since the Iron Age but the works on the current castle date to 1204. For the next 400 years it was expanded and strengthened, it was the seat of power in Jersey until the Castle of Elizabeth was built in Saint Helier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the cost and the hundreds of stairs the castle has been well restored and certainly an interesting 90 minutes of exploring. The views from the top stunning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that was the Gorey Castle and our last point of interest on our tour of Jersey. We ride down the hill to Gorey for lunch at the pub. There are three, we choose the pub the locals were obviously drinking at. Lunch was nothing fancy and not reasonably priced but nothing in Jersey is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we make our way back to the Hymer which has been cooling its heals for 6 nights and start packing as we have an early ferry in the morning. We\u2019ve filled the scooter twice and found it a great way to explore the out of the way places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was Jersey and we enjoyed it our way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
