{"id":2488,"date":"2014-10-15T16:16:48","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T16:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=2488"},"modified":"2019-05-15T08:16:03","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T22:16:03","slug":"cuenca-provence-of-la-mancha-spain-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=2488","title":{"rendered":"Cuenca, Spain. 2014 \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddf8"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Travelled : 93 miles from Teruel, Provence of Aragon to Cuenca, Provence of La Mancha.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited : Cuenca<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed : Cuenca municipal car park, $12 no services (other than toilets) but a great location,\u00a0<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/eeaKRH4cm895QTwt8\">N40.076763, E02.141098<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Expenses : 52 days @ \u20ac80 per day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We depart Teruel, thinking we may stop at a supermarket on the way out of town, but find within 500 metres of our car park we are out of town heading south-west on the N330. &nbsp;No supermarket or service station for that matter for the next 40 kilometres. &nbsp;In fact it&#8217;s a very isolated and lonely piece of road. &nbsp;We follow the Rio Turia up into the hills. &nbsp;The landscape is harsh and arid, but the geographic formations in the hillside amazing. &nbsp;Small canyons to the left and right scared by some ancient waterway give a very eerie look as we drive. &nbsp;Then suddenly the banks on either side of the river are lined with poplars. &nbsp;The leaves have turned and they are bright yellow against the arid surrounding, strikingly beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image123-e1413563059381.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image123-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-2491\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We stop at the little village of Turrebaja as we have seen the now very familiar Aire sign and we do our housekeeping and refill with water. It&#8217;s on the junction with the N429 and we can see the ruins of some structure on the hill above us, so we drive up into the village to investigate and morning tea. &nbsp;As it eventuates there is something of a legend to this place. &nbsp;The spirit of The Virgin Mary was sighted in a bramble bush here and the church and village are all the result of that sighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image124-e1413561602214.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image124-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-2492\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image125-e1413561644131.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image125-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Ruins above the village of Burreaja, Spain.  2014\" class=\"wp-image-2493\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Ruins above the village of Turrebaja.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image126-e1413561770994.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/image126-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Pam checks out bramble bushes, Turrebaja, Spain.  2014\" class=\"wp-image-2494\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Pam checks out bramble bushes, Turrebaja.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We turn on the N420 and the road suddenly improves, the next 100 kilometres to Cuenca pass easily. &nbsp;The land is still very hash and dry, the soil at time very red, not unlike Broken Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We drive into Cuenca along a wide boulevard that leads into the new town. &nbsp;We refuel the Hymer and find a Dia Supermarket before heading into the old town.
