{"id":16747,"date":"2018-06-05T11:10:34","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T01:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=16747"},"modified":"2019-05-25T08:24:39","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T22:24:39","slug":"ironbridge-in-shropshire-england-2018-%f0%9f%87%ac%f0%9f%87%a7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=16747","title":{"rendered":"Ironbridge in Shropshire, England 2018 \ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: 5th June 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: 153 kilometres from Oxford to Warrington<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: Ironbridge Gorge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: Holly Bush Inn, High Walton (Oxford), free pub stay. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/NaYUZaV1PVckrqDS6\">N53.28877, W02.59289<\/a><\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We had one round of drinks in the Old Red Lion before calling it quits. &nbsp;Its been a long couple of days and a good sleep is required, unfortunately the sun was up at 4.30 am and that was the end of that. &nbsp;By 5.30 we are up re-arranging this and that all part of settling in to 4 months of motorhoming. &nbsp;It\u2019s a cold drizzly morning and not looking too flash as we have our coffee and fruit. &nbsp;The gates to the pub open as if by magic and we continue our journey north.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The drizzle soon passes and the day brightens as we bypass Coventry and Birmingham, leaving the M6 we take the A roads west for Ironbridge Gorge. &nbsp;Whilst all roads appear to lead to Ironbridge, none of them actually appear to get there. &nbsp;Eventually we find the road leading down to the gorge itself and find a free carpark. &nbsp;Don\u2019t get excited it wasn\u2019t really a free carpark but the machine was apparently broken and a small cardboard sign stated \u2018free parking today\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Iron_Bridge_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The roads are narrow and there are several museum all titled Ironbridge this and that.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Ironbridge_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Following this coach seems like the best option.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Ironbridge_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The Lonely Planet describes Ironbridge\u2019s iron bridge as a magnificent example of late 19th century engineering. However we arrive to find its rapped in 21st century plastic for a refurbish.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Ironbridge_3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We saw several brick kilns and factories built into the steep hillside. Noting Ironbridge was famous for it\u2019s pipe kilns. Pam and I were was thinking terracotta drainage pipes but no, it was tobacco smoking pipes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Ironbridge_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>As this notice board indicate its a labyrinth of narrow winding road from one museum or site to the next.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Ironbridge_6.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The village of Ironbridge stands on the River Severn. The village is very pretty but a little touristy, I can recommend the pastie for lunch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So we start the long drive back out of the gorge turning onto the M6 for Warrington. &nbsp;We are having some work done on the Hymer\u2019s rear suspension tomorrow and the company (AS Air Suspension) has recommended the Holly Bush Inn as an overnight stop. &nbsp;As we get closer to Warrington the weather has cleared, the sun is out. &nbsp;The GPS does it\u2019s job and we roll into the car-park just in time to put the awning out and have a little afternoon nap before dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Holly_Bush_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The Holly Bush Inn, beer \ud83c\udf7a, wine \ud83c\udf77 and good food \ud83e\udd58 , bonus the sun \u2600 is out.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael and Pam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Date: 5th June 2018.
