{"id":14413,"date":"2018-09-19T15:12:41","date_gmt":"2018-09-19T15:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=14413"},"modified":"2019-05-28T17:45:27","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T07:45:27","slug":"venice-day-2-italy-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=14413","title":{"rendered":"Venice (day 2), Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;17-18th September 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;Only into Venice in Veneto (by public transport), Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Venice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Venice, Sosta San Giuliano \u20ac18, all services, electricity extra \u20ac4. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/e3ih8bUzLZ3d3o5b9\">N45.46755, E12.27927<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Budget: &nbsp;106 days @ \u20ac93 per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst we had a wonderful day in Venice yesterday we wake a little footsore today. &nbsp;We managed a load of washing last night for \u20ac5 and get most of it dry for an extra \u20ac2. &nbsp;No need for a particularly early start, so we have coffee, fruit then breakfast before taking the long walk to the bus stop about 9.30am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As season Venice commuters it\u2019s all very easy today. &nbsp;Our Venice travel cards (\u20ac20pp) don\u2019t expire until lunch time and we may well wing it or just purchase individual tickets after that. &nbsp;We noticed during our several trips yesterday we appeared to be the only ones validating our tickets ? &nbsp;Is it possible the Italians are all micro-chipped ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_30.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Once again on the grand canal. The Ponte di Rialto, Venice most iconic bridge. Attracts Asian tourist like bees to the honey pot. &nbsp;You can loose an eye to a selfie stick just like that.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_31.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>So many iconic views.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_33.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The traffic is light this morning.<span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again we alite at San Marco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_34.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We walk along the canal at San Marco to the ferry terminal outside the Hotel Danieli and take the ferry to Campo San Giorgio. Whilst it stands on a separate island, it\u2019s&nbsp;considered part of Guidecca district.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_35.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The Chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore and it\u2019s marble facade and tower is its main features. &nbsp;Its construction began in 1560. &nbsp;At \u20ac6pp the bell tower was too expensive.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_36.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The guide book highlights the works by Tintoretto, that stand on either side of the Altar. &nbsp;This one the last supper.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_35-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We looked at this painting for a while, unsure of what it was meant to represent ?<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_36-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The Choir.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_37.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Behind the church is the Fondazione Giorgio Cini. &nbsp;It wasn\u2019t on our list but there is a special exhibition on for a fortnight and it\u2019s free. &nbsp;So we offer ourselves as rent-a-crowd.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.homofaberevent.com\/en\">Homo Faber at the Fondazione<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_38.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>From Giudecca we ferry back to San Marco, then take a Vaporetto #1 to the Dorsoduro district. That\u2019s the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute as we cross.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_39.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>You cannot get the Basilica in frame once you land. It makes little difference as it was closed for lunch, so we rapidly lost interest.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_40.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>So we just wander along taking in the postcard views.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_41.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>We originally planned to visit the Peggy Guggenheim here on Dorsoduro today. Checking the guide back at the Hymer this morning we found it\u2019s closed on Tuesday. &nbsp;In Venice there\u2019s always another famous gallery to visit. On our way we find a lovely little pub called the Corner Pub for lunch. &nbsp;Nice view ?<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_43.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>Next&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_44.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>It\u2019s not far and a pleasant walk to the Galleria dell\u2019Accademia.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_45.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>So we find the dell\u2019Accademia without any problem pay our \u20ac15pp and spend the next couple of hours wandering about.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_46.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1022\"\/><figcaption>The Gallerie dell\u2019Accademia is set within an old church. It\u2019s not as if Venice doesn\u2019t have many churches to spare. A floor has been added within the naive, getting you much closer to the original ceiling. &nbsp;I found the ceiling as interesting as the artwork.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_47.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>I love this \u2018Where\u2019s Wally\u2019 piece as well.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Venice_48.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>So it\u2019s getting late again. &nbsp;When we walk out of the gallery and make our way to the ferry dock and the Vaporetto back to Roma terminus, it\u2019s almost 5pm.
