{"id":14087,"date":"2018-09-10T06:41:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-10T06:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=14087"},"modified":"2019-05-28T15:22:42","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T05:22:42","slug":"spello-italy-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=14087","title":{"rendered":"Spello, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;9th September 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;23 kilometres from Montefalco to Spello, both in Umbria, Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Spello<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Spello municpal sosta, \u20ac8. &nbsp;Tap and grey water only. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/G3nx1SbwbBfAHUqR8\">N42.99356, E12.66734<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Budget: &nbsp;98 days @ \u20ac94 per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s Sunday morning and we\u2019re feeling a little lazy today. &nbsp;We could easily sit out the Sunday in Montefalco but that\u2019s not what we do. &nbsp;Most of our neighbors have gone early, just in case someone comes to check if they have paid, I suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have our coffee etc and go for a walk up into Montefalco, there is supposed to be a laundromat here, but we don\u2019t have any luck finding it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Montefalco_101.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>But we do find these guys. Just as we are going we spot them in the vineyard next to the sosta practicing.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So we are finally on our way. &nbsp;At Foligno we find an excellent laundromat and a Lidl. &nbsp;We have lunch whilst the machines do their thing, then there\u2019s the supermarket, so by the time we are all packed away again another couple of hours have passed. &nbsp;The village of Spello is only another 10 klms so we set the GPS and just do what we\u2019re told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We arrive at the sosta, which is just down the hill from Spello. &nbsp;The machine says \u20ac8 but as nothing works we don\u2019t pay.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>Our daily pattern continues, we walk up hill to the old town centro. &nbsp;In Italy you either walk uphill or down.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Another lovely gate, this one Porta Venere or Gate of Venus. &nbsp;Its 12 sided columns being renovated in 1990 according to the little sign.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>The Church of St Andrea. &nbsp;Established by the Franciscan\u2019s it has the typically simple exterior the order preferred, circa 1253.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>Inside the church, the simple theme continues. &nbsp;No gold or silver but the complex faulted ceiling draws you to look up.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>I didn\u2019t quite get the framing right, but it was dark in there.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_9.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Our favourite part of these old Italian churches are the frescos. &nbsp;Being Franciscan the frescos reflect the life of St Francis and Jesus.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Spello_10.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Palazzo Spello. &nbsp;As the sun sets people appear from here and there.
