{"id":13464,"date":"2018-08-27T18:16:37","date_gmt":"2018-08-27T18:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13464"},"modified":"2019-05-28T07:33:12","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T21:33:12","slug":"matera-italy-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13464","title":{"rendered":"Matera, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;25-26th August 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;109 kilometres from Cisternino in Puglia to Matera in Basilicata, both in Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Matera and the Sussi.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Massiera Radonga sosta, \u20ac12 including electricity. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/Yu9DnWBUSXmXs4vo7\">N40.67221, E16.62925<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Budget: &nbsp;84 days @ \u20ac98 per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We try to make an early start as the drive to Matera will take a couple of hours. &nbsp;But the Hymer has not been serviced for a few days so everything takes a little longer. &nbsp;Our free sosta in Cisternino was both quiet in the evening and well located to visit the surrounding towns and get the laundry done. &nbsp;However it\u2019s time to move, so we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not an easy drive as once again the roads are atrocious. &nbsp;Matera is a major tourist attraction and as it\u2019s the weekend we want to be just out of town. &nbsp;There are some free overnight stays in town, but a good nights sleep out of town has more appeal. &nbsp;Plus we have the scooter to get around. &nbsp;We set the GPS for Massiera Radonga, the Sussi Visitors Centre about 3klms out of town. &nbsp;Apart from having facilities it\u2019s also the cheapest option of the 5 sosta in Matera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the Hymer is parked under some shade, we settle in and un-load the scooter and head off for some exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Matera_30.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Our sosta for 2 nights in Matera.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Matera_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We are happily surprised to find that another kilometre or so along the road on from the sosta are several sassi dwellings and a church. &nbsp;Also a fabulous viewing point of Matera.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>What is Matera all about ?
