{"id":13337,"date":"2018-08-23T06:52:04","date_gmt":"2018-08-23T06:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13337"},"modified":"2019-05-28T06:53:48","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T20:53:48","slug":"ostuni-italy-2108","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13337","title":{"rendered":"Ostuni, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;22st August 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;190 kilometres from Capo Sta Maria Di Leuca to Cisternino, both in Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Ostuni, Puglia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Cisternino municipal sosta, free with services. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/68fBwJvA7vgT5snD6\">N40.74423, E17.42740<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Budget: &nbsp;81 days @ \u20ac99 per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a quiet evening we are up early for a swim. &nbsp;The tiny inlet and beach at Canale del Ciolo is famous throughout Italy and often shown on tourist advertisments. &nbsp;It\u2019s about 10 kilometres north of Capo, but the guide warns there is no parking, hence the scooter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Canale_del_Ciolo_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looking down from the road bridge above the inlet. &nbsp;There are a number of sea caves or grottos as they call them here to explore.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Canale_del_Ciolo_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>When we first arrived there were 20 people here, within the hour there are 120 with more arriving every minute, so it\u2019s time to go.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The scooter back to the Hymer we do the usual services before heading out the drive, turning north on the SP358. &nbsp;The Lonely Planet states the drive from Santa Maria del Leuca to Otranto is the most scenic in Puglia. &nbsp;So we will find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SP_358.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Every turn provides sweeping views of the coastline.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SP_358_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Lots of nice homes overlooking the Adriatic Sea.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SP358_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Many of the larger hotels or public buildings have a Arabic feel.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SP358_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Growing rocks seems to be the only successful farming activity.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SP358_8.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We pass several small fortress or outposts of Greek and Roman origin.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We eventually turned for Lecce, then pass around the port city of Brindisi before we turn for the hill-top town of Ostuni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Ostuni_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Ostuni finally comes into view. &nbsp;The is a sosta just below the town, so we find a spot and go for a walk.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Ostuni_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>Just up from the sosta we find the Church of Carmine, circa 1615.
