{"id":13306,"date":"2018-08-22T08:38:07","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T08:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13306"},"modified":"2019-05-28T06:51:14","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T20:51:14","slug":"capo-santa-maria-di-leuca-italy-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13306","title":{"rendered":"Capo Santa Maria Di Leuca, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;21st August 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;130 kilometres from Grottaglie to Capo Sta Maria Di Leuca, both in Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Capo Sta Maria Di Leuca in Puglia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Capo Sta Maria Di Leuca sosta, \u20ac20 all services. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/SNvFm5zrbvUa2Sz49\">N39.80008, E18.36270<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every now and then you don\u2019t have a good night in a sosta. &nbsp;Last night in Grottaglie was one of those. &nbsp;The Italians don\u2019t come out for dinner until 8-9pm, we normally go to bed not long after that time. &nbsp;As it\u2019s festival time our car-park fills to capacity, but the cars just keep on coming. &nbsp;Then there\u2019s the parking attendent trying to stop people from parking in the driveways, lots of yelling and general carrying on. &nbsp;On the other hand it was a free stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it was a late start this morning, we have some coffee and fruit and continue east.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Goats_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The morning traffic is light but the goat crossings are busy.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Puglia_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Someone is living the dream. The landscape is very flat and quite barren, from a couple of kilometres away it looks like an old castle, but up close someone has built a new castle.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Puglia_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>There are some good renovation possibilities in Sava.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Puglia_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The road east to Gallipoli is a series of bottlenecks in the towns and villages. &nbsp;Where not in a hurry so it\u2019s not a problem. &nbsp;But the road surfaces in the villages are worse than you can imagine. &nbsp;Huge unfilled potholes and uneven surfaces mean there is no relaxing.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Gallipoli_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We take the turn for Gallipoli just for its name as much as anything else. It\u2019s a small touristy sea port in southern Puglia. We cannot find a parking spot, so we find a tree with some shade and have a late lunch.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>By mid-afternoon we arrive in Capo Sta Maria di Leuca. The south eastern tip of Italy, so for our 2018 adventures everywhere from here is heading home.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It looks a pretty town, but the roads are narrow so we turn around and find a parking spot at the sosta near the marina. &nbsp;We get a spot in the shade under a tree and quickly decide we have had enough for today. &nbsp;A little nap, followed by a swim seem in order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Feeling somewhat refreshed we walk off looking for a beach. This rock cove was the best we could find, mind you the water was clear and getting in and out easy enough.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The shadows are getting longer, so we get the scooter off to do some exploring and find somewhere for a drink. &nbsp;But first we ride to the top of the cape behing us and find this church and monastery, called the Sanctury of di Leuca.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The wedding party and guests were walking out as we arrived. &nbsp;So we quickly duck in for a photo, obviously the flowers are a bonus.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>The cape\u2019s lighthouse, not a Stephenson !<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_8.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looking back on Sta Maria di Leuca and the capo beyond. &nbsp;It\u2019s a pretty place.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We park the scooter in the center of town, find a nice little sea-food restuarant and another day slips through to the keeper&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Capo_Sta_Maria_di_Leuca_10.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Just a quick bonus photo.
