{"id":13229,"date":"2018-08-20T08:32:28","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T08:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13229"},"modified":"2019-05-28T06:46:59","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T20:46:59","slug":"santa-severina-italy-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=13229","title":{"rendered":"Santa Severina, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;19th August 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;171 kilometres from Santa Severina to Morano Calabro, both in Italy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Santa Severina in Calabria.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Morano Calabro, Parcheggio Comunale Sosta, free with water. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/esaz4F6q1cAWavCj9\">N39.84086, E16.13737<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We enjoyed a great sleep after our meal at the restaurant. &nbsp;We slept with the windows open, the breeze up here in the mountains, is cool. &nbsp;I hear a rooster crowing about 5.30am and wished we had eaten him for dinner last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During our motorhome travels we have often experienced a cold evening in the alps. &nbsp;Coastal Italy is hot and humid, quite uncomfortable without the airconditioner. &nbsp;But up in the hills, seemingly anything above a 3-400 metres the climate changes, its still hot in the sun but the breeze is cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I roll the scooter of the Hymer and we make the 5klm ride back to Santa Severina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We stop for a quick look, before at our next challenge, Santa Severina.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_6.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We get up the hill surprising easily and find a scooter park under the Castello.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_6-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Just outside the car-park we find the Chapel of St Philomena, its open so we pop-in for a look.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_7.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The view from the chapel window.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_8.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We walk up to the piazza. The blurb states that the rocky outcrop on which the Costello stands has been occupied since neolithic times with cave dwellings found under the one of the bastions.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_14.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Around the keep a maze of passageway, bridges and bastions. The citadel took it\u2019s current form, circa 14th century, with some little add ons over the next 200 years.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Santa_Severina_18.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Pam enjoys a good necropolis and the castello has an interesting one.
