{"id":12637,"date":"2018-08-05T05:55:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-05T05:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=12637"},"modified":"2019-05-27T17:30:52","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T07:30:52","slug":"mellieha-malta-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=12637","title":{"rendered":"Mellieha, Malta 2018 \ud83c\uddf2\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: 4th August 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;Only by scooter, the Hymer is up on ramps and hooked up to electricity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Mellieha, Malta<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Camping Malta, L-Armier, \u20ac21.50 pd, all the usual services. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/56ZFQpNv1kL7wgMT9\">N35.99484, E14,36686<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have fallen into the campsite lifestyle here at Camping Malta. &nbsp;In the caravan behind us our English neighbours are great fun and we chat each morning and evening about whose-who in the campsite and things to do around Malta. &nbsp;In front of us a young German guy in a converted van, has good english and we have the odd chat mostly about how sun-burnt he is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst you can easily walk along the road to the next beach, walking anywhere else is difficult. &nbsp;The local limestone near the coast is weathered into an irregular moonscape of jagged rock and hollows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/LArmier_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Out for an early walk around headland, a balmy 28\u00b0 at 8am.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/LArmier_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looking back at Camping Malta.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/LArmier_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>As we carefully walk we discover Coral Cove. A collapsed sea cave only 200 metres from our site. &nbsp;Vince tells us people have drowned here and it\u2019s very dangerous if a swell developes.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/LArmier_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looking along the coastline, the water is clear but the rocks jagged.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Our neighbours tell us the nearby town of Mellieha is well worth a visit so we decide to start our Malta exploration there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wpps_container\" style=\"margin: 10px auto; width: 1000px; max-width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/D5EFA953-ABF1-4AB2-BE64-6CD1FBF564A2-scaled.jpeg?height=550px&amp;segments=100&amp;rings=100&amp;hide_link=0&amp;autoload=1&amp;anim_after=2000&amp;anim_speed=1rpm&amp;vertical_anim_speed=2rpm&amp;vertical_anim_target=0&amp;navbar=1&amp;overlay_img=&amp;overlay_position=bottom+left&amp;min_fov=30&amp;max_fov=90&amp;zoom_level=0&amp;long=0&amp;lat=0&amp;tilt_up_max=90&amp;tilt_down_max=90&amp;min_long=0&amp;max_long=360&amp;reverse_anim=0&amp;xmp=1&amp;smooth_user_moves=1&amp;scroll_to_zoom=1&amp;zoom_speed=1&amp;eyes_offset=5&amp;full_width=default&amp;full_height=default&amp;cropped_width=default&amp;cropped_height=default&amp;cropped_x=default&amp;cropped_y=default&amp;horizontal_fov=360&amp;vertical_fov=180\" style=\"display: block; padding: 5px; background-color: #3D3D3D; color: #FFFFFF;\">Michael and Pam's Photo Sphere (Ramla Bay Pano)<\/a><div style=\"position: relative; box-sizing: content-box;\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We find the old town of Mellieha on top of the hill as you would expect. &nbsp;It\u2019s a steep climb on our little scooter but we soon find a parking spot near the Parish Church of Our Lady of Victory.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>Not sure who this fellow is but he has pride of place in Mellieha.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Across the courtyard and a level below the Parish Church stand the Sanctuary a stopping place for pilgrams since medieval times.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_6.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>A quick look inside the Sanctuary, we were surprised to find a several people sitting around, but then again it was quite cool in there. &nbsp;Then again it is claimed that St Paul, stopped here and blessed this place.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>We eventually find a tiny tourist office and the girl provides a map and recommends a couple of things to visit.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_8.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We go on to visit the Air-Raid Shelter museum, \u20ac2.40pp.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_9-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>It was constructed to provide shelter during WW11 built within a couple of months. At 12 metres below ground level and 500 metres in length it was the largest in Malta. &nbsp;Nice and cool down here, lots of photos and some memorabilia from the 1940\u2019s.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_9-2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Lastly, we walk down a long flight of stairs to the Grotto of Madonna. &nbsp;Built within a deep cave. &nbsp;A small spring tickles on one side, it is reputed to have the power to heal sick children. &nbsp;A bit spooky and your hot and sweaty after the 50 steps back up to ground level.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So we have done the old town, we scooter back to the Hymer for a swim. &nbsp;Our neighbours John and Linda ask do we want to go with them back into Melleiha for dinner tonight ? &nbsp;Their Lexus handles the road from hell much better than our scooter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Mellieha_10.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>A last photo of the Church, as we walk to the restaurant.
