{"id":12222,"date":"2018-07-26T18:12:15","date_gmt":"2018-07-26T18:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=12222"},"modified":"2019-05-27T12:34:31","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T02:34:31","slug":"palermo-sicily-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=12222","title":{"rendered":"Genoa, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;25th July 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;103 kilometres by vehicle from Deiva Marina and 800 kilometres by ferry from Genoa to Palermo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;Genoa and GNV Ferries (\u20ac550)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Green Car Solsta, Palermo. \u20ac20 usual services. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/eyCVMXyTkuktWfm87\">N38.10997, E13.34267<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have our second quiet evening at Deiva Marina. &nbsp;A bit of a late start today but we do the usual and start packing up to move on. &nbsp;It\u2019s only an hour back to Genoa and our ferry departure is not until 9pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Deiva_Marina_200.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Quick last photo before we pack up and depart Deiva Marina. Nice shady spot it was.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We take the tollway (\u20ac7.40) back to Genoa. &nbsp;An easy drive, mind you, Italian drivers are unpredictable at best. &nbsp;Arriving in Genoa we drive down to the port for a quick look, then on to a Lidl supermarket for a stock up. &nbsp;We then spend another hour trying to find a parking spot without success. &nbsp;Eventually after referring to our data-base we find a dedicated motorhome parking area within walking distance to the old town. &nbsp;Mind you the casual rate is \u20ac4 an hour ! &nbsp;So we try for a short visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Genoa_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>As we walk up the hill we pass through Porte Soprano and old gate, above a small unkept park.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Genoa_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>No idea what this was all about, but I took a picture anyway.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Genoa_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>A little lost at this stage we find Piazza Corvetto at the top of a rise.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Genoa_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>A little higher up the hill we find Monumento A Mazzini and photo opportunity. More importantly we find a female parking officer writing tickets like she\u2019s on commission, who gives us some directs to the Piazza de Ferrari.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Genoa_6.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>On the Piazza de Ferrari looking toward the city\u2019s opera house. We manage to find a TIM shop (Italy\u2019s Telstra) and purchase at 30gb data sim for \u20ac20. Having done ferries all over Europe, nothing compares to the schmozzle that are Italian ferry crossings.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Sicily_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Our first view of Sicily after our 21 hour passage.
