{"id":12116,"date":"2018-07-24T18:04:00","date_gmt":"2018-07-24T18:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=12116"},"modified":"2019-05-27T11:25:25","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T01:25:25","slug":"castelvecchio-di-rocca-barbena-italy-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=12116","title":{"rendered":"Castelvecchio Di Rocca Barbena, Italy 2018 \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Date: &nbsp;23rd July 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;153 kilometres from Zuccarello to Deiva Marina, both in Italy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Visited: Castelvecchio Di Rocca Barbena<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stayed: Camping Deiva Marina, \u20ac33 pn. &nbsp;All facilities. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/UX8f1SkBxddusPJS9\">N44.21471, E09.51933<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Italian motorhome next to us departed after dinner and we overnighted alone in the carpark. &nbsp;Mind you we woke to be surrounded by cars in the morning, but we didn\u2019t hear them. &nbsp;Our Italian neighbour spoke good english and we chatted for a while. &nbsp;He provided some hints on motorhoming in Italy. &nbsp;His key advise was not to drive down through Italy to Sicily but take the ferry from Genoa to Palermo, then sightsee on the way back. &nbsp;With the current price of deisel in Italy of \u20ac1.60-1.70 litre the ferry is much easier and less expensive than driving. &nbsp;Given our last tank of deisel was \u20ac110 it\u2019s food for thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our mission this morning is to visit Castelvecchio (Castelvecchio De Rocca Barbena).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We can see Castelvecchio from Zuccarello, perched high on the hill a couple of kilometres away. So we unload the scooter follow the signs.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>There is no parking in the Castelvecchio, but a small carpark sits above the town. Despite only being 50cc the scooter gets us up here comfortably<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looks interesting doesn\u2019t it. I found this guide to the best villages in Italy and Castelvecchio is one of them.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The old castle stands on the hill surrounded by the town. We will later discover it is a private residence.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>Down in the village its a labyrinth of narrow laneways, arches and tiny porches. &nbsp;There are little relics of rural life here and there.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_7.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>In the town square they are busy disassembling a stage. There was a festival here last night apparently, that explains why Zuccarello was so quiet last night. &nbsp;Bit hard to decipher the sign, but it appears this was the old town hall.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>These mountain villages are good exercise. There is no level ground it\u2019s all uphill or down, with lots of stairs for good measure.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>The Church of Santa Maria was locked unfortunately. Mind you the steeple makes a good reference point, when you get lost.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Castelvecchio_10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>We have enjoyed walking Castelvecchio for an hour but we have a long drive today. So we find our way back to the scooter and Zuccarello.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Zuccarello_20.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Re-mounting the scooter takes little more time than the push-bikes.
