The place looks so nice we have a walk through the village after lunch.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/D971_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>As we walk through Mussy-sur-Seine we notice little laneways running through the houses. &nbsp;This one is Ruelle Xavier.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/D_971_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>An hour later as we drive through the small village of Nord-sur-Seine I spot this WWII, US made half-track in French livery, next to the local war memorial.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/D971_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The french countryside rolls on, every 5 or 10 kilometres we slow for another small village, in this case La Barque. Apart from saving the tolls isn\u2019t this why you travel in a foreign country.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/D971_7.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The occasional section of the D971 is lined with plane trees, reminding us of the Midi.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Dole_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>It\u2019s mid-afternoon when we roll into Dole, it\u2019s hot and the sun, fierce. &nbsp;Dole is a large town, striding the River Doubes. &nbsp;There is a large aire just across the canal from the old town. &nbsp;We stayed here a few years ago So we find a shady spot and chill out for an hour.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Dole_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We are brought to our senses by the loudest music blaring away across the canal. We know it\u2019s Bastille day tomorrow but it looks like there may be something on tonight.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Dole_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>It\u2019s early evening by the time we cross the canal and walk up town. &nbsp;This area with its labrinth of canals and waterways is called \u2018Little Venice\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michael and Pam in Dole\" width=\"1140\" height=\"855\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HfQlhgKsCoA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Dole_8.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We soon find the town square, it also has barricades everywhere but I manage a picture of Pam with the Notre-Dame de Dole as a backdrop.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Dole_10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>The cathedral was closed during our last visit, so we pop in to have a look. The evening sunlight provides a wonderful backlight for this window.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Dole_11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\"\/><figcaption>From the naive looking towards the alter.
