Travelled:  485 kilometres from Jedburgh, Scotland to Newmarket in England.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited:  Jedburgh Abbey, Scotland<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed:  Newmarket, England.  Church Lane long term parking, free on Sunday and overnight.  N52.24405, E0.40285<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a very quiet eveing in Jedburgh, there were a couple of other motorhomes here overnight, so we felt safe enough.  The tourist office is just over the way, with toilets etc.  But as we arrived in the early evening, everything was closed in any case.  After a long day on the road we weren\u2019t in the mood for exploring anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst I am writting a blog, Pam is looking through the Lonely Planet to find, Jedburgh has some very interesting sites of its own.  So after the usual coffee and fruit we walk up town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s only a short walk up to the square. Pam takes a seat under this lovely lamp, come fountain.  On top of the post you may notice a small figure of a unicorn, known as a mercat cross in Scotland.  This indicated the town has royal consent to hold a market in the town square.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mary Queen of Scots certainly seemed to get around.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Mary Queen of Scots Visitors Centre, which is essentially the house and garden, is beautifully presented.   Such lovely lawn, trees and garden beds.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On the far side of the garden we find Jedburgh\u2019s Rock of Ages. Carved 1300 years ago, this stone was the base for a larger cross.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
