{"id":10924,"date":"2018-06-23T18:12:32","date_gmt":"2018-06-23T18:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=10924"},"modified":"2019-05-26T06:56:51","modified_gmt":"2019-05-25T20:56:51","slug":"north-coast-500-day-3-scotland-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=10924","title":{"rendered":"North Coast 500 (day 3), Scotland 2018 \ud83c\udff4\udb40\udc67\udb40\udc62\udb40\udc73\udb40\udc63\udb40\udc74\udb40\udc7f"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Date: &nbsp;22nd June 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Travelled: &nbsp;135 kilometres from Loch Eriboll to Castle Hill, Scotland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: &nbsp;North Coast 500, St Mary\u2019s Chapel, Crosskirk free.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;Castle Hill Heritage Centre car-park, free. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/2FBqLRvQ3fnw6cPv9\">N58.59745, W03.38680<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing interesting to report from our overnight wildcamp on Loch Eriboll. &nbsp;The old couple (older than us in any case) in the motorhome next door appeared to sleep until the early evening. &nbsp;As we are going to bed just after 9pm, we can hear classical music playing. &nbsp;I take a peak out the window to find they are knocking back the wine whilst having their dinner. &nbsp;Maybe the NC500 is also a romantic road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Tongue_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>As we continue east the morning weather takes it usual turn, not necessarily for the worst. Just always changing.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Thurso_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>A few miles west of Thurso we pass the Dounreay nuclear power station, now in the process of de-commissioning. It was commissioned and started producing electricity in 1955.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/St_Marys_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Surprisingly close to Dounreay we spot the sign and turn for St Mary\u2019s Chapel. &nbsp;Winding our way along a narrow lane and just avoiding a head on with a semi-trailer of all things we turn into a small carpark that appears to be behind a farmer\u2019s house.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/St_Marys_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>After a deceptively long walk we arrive.
