Our thoughts after touring Scotland in 2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strengths: <\/strong>For us the wild natural beauty of Scotland’s highlands and coastlines were the highlight.  Like Norway, but it has friendly pubs in every village.  Then there’s the history, lots of ruined castles and manor houses to visit.  You soon get tangled in the battle of the clans and the long running wars with the English.  Away from the cities parking is free and easy to find.  Our 3 sim worked everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weaknesses<\/span>: <\/strong>Not as motorhome facility friendly as France or Germany, but a lot more relaxed than England and Wales.  There are traditional campsites scattered about and they seemed expensive, so we only stayed once or twice.  The ferries tend to be expensive (particularly to Orkney).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opportunities:\u00a0<\/strong>Skye, the Outer Hebrides and the Orkneys are highly recommended. There are some fabulous coastal walks and you can spend all day looking for puffins if you so desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Threats: <\/strong>Probably just the weather and the midges.  We had almost 5 weeks of mild to warm weather, lots of sunny days with just the odd shower every few days.  In season the midges can make life difficult (very difficult) if they swarm and attack.  Mind you we only struck them once on the West Highland Way early one morning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
