We enjoyed a good night sleep on the banks of the Elbe River in Glรผckstadt but thought we should make an early start and try and make Denmark today.  As we are passing the marina in the middle of town, I stop the Hymer to check something and Pam discovers the marina has free wifi.  So we park, connect to skype and have a chat with various family members and send a couple of emails etc.

Its about a 90 minute drive, after almost turning off for Busum instead of Husum we arrive to a very busy place.

There is a dedicated stellplatz in the edge of town but we are not paying โ‚ฌ12 for a couple of hours, so we drive a few hundred metres and park on the side of the road. Within minutes we are joined by others.
The tidal fall must be huge here, it’s running and every boat in the harbour is sitting in the mud.
We soon establish it’s market day. The town square and all the adjoining street are full of stalls. There are people everywhere.
Pam strikes a pose with the Husum’s literary heroine ‘Tine’.
The Marienkerke, constructed in 1833 following the collapse of the original 14th century building is the only building of note in Husum and a place for a little peace and quiet from the hustle outside.
Pam lights a candle for the Grandchildren.
This brass font was moulded by a local artist and dates to 1643. The detail is wonderful.

It seems we have done Husum, as well as finding a gourmet quiche and some vegetables.  We wander back to the Hymer and have lunch in situ before continuing north.

This picture is for Rodney, a man who loves a good gherkin.

Unsure about the price of diesel in Denmark we fill up a few miles short of the border.  Its the cheapest fuel we have seen for a couple of days.  Every village along this last few kilometres has a huge alcohol supermarket, looks like Denmark will be the place to start using our stash of cheap beer.

Five years of motorhoming and we still get a buzz from crossing the frontier into a new country.  Bunch of Danes in the bus looking for cheap beer and wine.

We pass quickly through Tรธnder and on to Mรธgeltonder.  The Hymer loves the cobbles.
The Mรธgeltรธnder Kirke desribed in the Lonely Planet as a lavish feast for the senses.
The graveyard adjoining the kirke. Beautifully maintained with an interesting variety of plants and shrubs.
Whilst the Mรธgtรธnder Kirke looks somewhat plain and austere on the outside the inside is another story. The stories of the bible are visually represented everywhere. Hopefully the panorama will open for you.
This is one of 3 huge murals painted on the ceiling.
The Kirke’s nave dates to 1180, the alter piece the 15th century.
We finish our visit with a walk up the main street having a sticky beak.
We find this classic combination in a small carpark as we wander about.

Its getting late in the afternoon and we drive back to Tรธnder to find a park for the night.  There were a couple of motorhomes in a small carpark on the edge of Tรธnder but they are gone on our return.  So we have a look about and find a new stellplatz just around the corner.  Its a bit expensive but as we don’t know the lay of the land just yet, its a safe spot for the night.
