Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Bingara, New South Wales ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2020

Date: 3rd June 2020

Travelled: 152 kms from Tamworth to Bingara in the North-West Region of New South Wales

Visited: Barraba and Bingara

Stayed: Bingara Riverside Caravan Park $28 all services. S29.86428, E150.577838

Budget: NA

Following the Fossickers Way we head north for Bingara. The GPS indicates two hours travel time. Once again there is very little traffic and we find ourselves easy sitting on the speed limit as the farms pass by. We had an email from Yvonne yesterday recommending a stop at Barraba to view the famous silos, so thatโ€™s our planned first stop.

A couple of kms south of Barraba we arrive at Fintan Mageeโ€™s masterpiece.

Commissioned and painted in 2019 this mural capturing 3 scenes of a water diviner at work. Amazingly it only took 3 weeks to complete.

Back on the road for another 40 minutes we roll into Bingara. The GPS takes us straight to the caravan park, itโ€™s well located about 7-8 minutes walk to the town centre. Fronting the Gwydir River gives it a pleasant aspect.

Settling into to our overnight spot.

Once settled we walk into town for a look around.

We thought this was the best cottage in Bingara. Itโ€™s for sale but we thought $435K was a bit steep.

The shadows are getting long and you can feel the chill as we make our way back to the Winnebago. We didnโ€™t find anything suitable for dinner (any unsuitable either), so itโ€˜s left over Chinese tonight. On our return we chat with our new overnight neighbours, Bruce and Corinne for Wollongong. They are milling around the north-west waiting for the Queensland border to re-open.

We chat over a drink before retreating to the camper for dinner. Finishing the night watching another episode of Chernobyl. Cannot recommend the mini-series highly enough.

Another cold morning.

Up not so early, we head for a walk around 8.30ish. First priority a coffee. We made our way to the Bingara Bake House, which managed to produce a couple of acceptable double shots. They have a great range of all sort of delights so we plan to call back after our walk.

We spend the next hour walking the back roads of Bingara, even finding a substantial race course. That done we detour for pies, chocolate brownies and bread rolls. We drop in to the butcher for some sausages as well, before heading back to the Winnebago.

Itโ€™s well after 11 by the time we have readied the camper, wished our neighbours well and rolled out the gate and turn for Warialda…
