Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Trento, Italy 2018 ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Date:  25th September 2018

Travelled:  55 kms from Terlago to Riva del Garda (via Terento). Region of Trentino, Italy.

Visited:  Terento and Riva del Garda.

Stayed:  Riva del Garda, Sosta โ‚ฌ12, all sevices.  N45.87981, E10.85866

Budget:  114 days @ โ‚ฌ92 per day.

We enjoyed a quiet evening on the lake at Terlago.  I chat to our neighbour for a short while, before bed.  He is Icelandic and his partner French, they plan on a year travelling through Europe in an old camper-car.  He tells me they are on day 8.

We rise relatively early have a coffee and get ready to go.  Parking in Trento is limited, so we want to be in early and hopefully find a spot.

We set the GPS for a dedicated motorhome parking spot within an easy walk to the historic centro.  There are only two spots and one is vacant.  Lucky eh.
Our parking place overlooks the Adige River.  So we have breakfast here before wandering up town to do some exploring.
Finding the Duomo (cathedral) is easy enough.
Inside the Cathedral di San Vigilio.  Itโ€™s a little dark and dimly lit.
It does have some interesting medieval frescoes inside the transcept.
One of the two colonnaded stairways that flank the nave.  We have never seen that before.  Stairway to heaven perhaps ?
On the Piazza del Duomo, Pam accessorised by the Fontana di Nettuno.
Still on the Piazza, the Diocesano Museum in the background.  There are a lot of people about, given its mid-morning.  Apparently itโ€™s graduation day at the local university, so lots of proud parents.
There are many lovely old buildings in and around the centro.  Like this one covered in a series of frescos.
Fortunately most of these circa 14-15th century Palazzos (grand house) like this one have detailed information panels.  This is Palazzo Geremia, by the way.
I seem to spend a lot of time standing outside clothing boutiques as the morning turns into afternoon.

We have been on the road for almost 4 months.  You know that sometimes you get a craving, that just cannot be resolved.  Well for us, in Italy, itโ€™s Asia food.  Italy is the home of the three Pโ€™s (panini, pizza and pasta) and in most reasonably priced restuarants, thatโ€™s pretty much it.  As we walked up to the piazza duomo earlier we passed a Japanese restuarant.  I donโ€™t mind telling you we got a little excited.

This photo is specifically for my sister Jeni. She tells me you should only post pictures of food before you take a bite.  Sorry Jeni I forgot.  It was all you can eat โ‚ฌ11.50 and we went for our moneyโ€™s worth.  It was excellent.

We stagger back to the Hymer, set the GPS for a stop at Riva del Garda at the northern end of Lake Garda.

Not a fabulous photo of the motorway, however itโ€™s the first time we have seen solar panels being used as part of a sound buffer for the neighbouring houses.

Our first glimpse of Lake Garda.  At this end surrounded by imposing cliffs and mountains.
Hereโ€™s another glimpse, but it wasnโ€™t the lake I was focusing on.
Finally at lake level we drive to the sosta and find a spot.  Lucky as there was only 3 spots left and they were taken shortly after.
Pam is keen for a walk so we set off in the late afternoon to explore Riva del Garda.
We walk the waterfront for 30 minutes or so.  The wind is really blowing by now and the sun sets quickly behind the mountain adding to the chill.
The days are getting shorter as we move into late September.  Where not complaining, the cool nights make for good sleeping and the late sunrise under the doona normally means a little sleep in.

By the time we return to the Hymer, we have walked off some of our long lunch in Trento.  Our asian craving satified for a week or so.  So itโ€™s a toasted sandwich for dinner, as another day slips through to the keeper.
