Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Ampezzo, Italy 2018 ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Date:  20th September 2018

Travelled:  122kms from Grado to Ampezzo both Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy.

Visited:  No where really

Stayed:  Ampezzo, free sosta, all services.  N46.41187, E12.80023

Budget:  109 days @ โ‚ฌ93 per day.

We depart Aquileia after lunch for Palmanova.  It was on my list of villages to visit as much for how it looked from google maps than anything else.

Entering one of the city gates of Palmanova.

The sosta is full of demountable homes, but we park anyway and walk up to the historic centro.  The main piazza has been converted into something resembling a circus.  That explained the demountable homes.  We pop into the church before making our way back to the Hymer and continuing on.

A quick photo inside the church at Palmanova.  We quickly decide Palmanova is not for us and we continue north for the Carnic Alps.

On the E55 north we by-pass Udine the largest in the provence.  There is a marked improvement in the roads in northern Italy compared even to Tuscany and Umbria.  We can only imagine itโ€™s to encourage the German and Austrian tourist.  We turn off the motorway at Tolmezzo.  Only about 40 klms from Austria to the north and Slovenia to the east, however we turn west for mountains of Carnia.

It been a long day and I note a parking place in Ampezzo. So we slow done and check it out.  Apart from being clean and tidy, it has all services including electricity for free.
Surrounded by the hills and mountains of Carnia, the views are great.

So we call it a day.  We get the comfortable chairs out, open a bottle of wine, crack a beer open and take in the view as another day slides by…
